Love the range but lacking in quality

So I've owned this gas range for a little over a year and while I love cooking on it, cleaning it is another story. The grates have become discolored no matter how often I clean them. The burner covers have also become stained. The gas indicator light already broke and the plastic coloring on the knobs have chipped. So I'm a bit disappointed since this was an expensive item.

I have found this cooktop to scratch easily, the small black rubber plugs meant to support the grates fall out when I am cleaning it and I am overall dissatisfied. I use the correct stainless cleaner which helps but maneuvering around the knobs is difficult and cleaning is very time consuming.

We purchased this cooktop to replace an older model GE gas cooktop that was about 20 years old. This one has the flexible middle burner that can allows for both an additional smaller burner or a larger one. It also has a gas lock on it, in case you have kids around are cleaning around the knobs and don't want the gas to turn on accidentally. The very best feature, I think, is that this cooktop fit perfectly into our granite cutout as it is similarly sized as our old GE cooktop. It was a perfect fit.

The stainless bottom under the burners started to yellow after just a few days of use. The grates don't have any protection on them, they're heavy and have already scratched the stainless on the top of the cooktop.

First time gas top user

I really do like the cooking option with gas and when we did our major remodel we made the decision to switch over. My only complaint is the gas smell is so strong in our storage drawer under cooktop. Maybe this is normal but we have had our contractor who installed out twice to double check for leaks and he swears the connections are all good so it has to be leftover gas from turning on and off. Again, I am a first time gas top user so maybe this is normal but I have to open my drawers at night and let some of the smell release after I have cooked dinner.

Nice large grates for heavy pots and attractive. From there, the burner controls are cheap and not smooth at all. Dead spots when increasing the flame where the knobs are turning, but the burners aren't increasing for another 1/2 inch or more! This is VERY poor precision control of a unit THIS expensive, and I've owned FAR better. The grates do NOT match up and you cannot slide a heavy pot to the next grate properly. If I could do it over, without doubt knowing what I know now, I'd have gotten something else. Disappointed in this VERY expensive unit.

My previous cooktop had open burners which were all the same size. I could never get a true simmer, because they all burned too hot. This model has a couple of options for simmer.
